primary areas of interest are:
We have developed a Networking Interoperability Laboratory thanks to a generous donation from the ALCATEL Corporation. The lab is used for a Upper Division Elective CECS 474, CECS 572/672.
Currently, I am looking for Masters students ( or highly motivated undergrads) who would like to participate in research projects in the areas of
IP Telephony or VoIP (Voice over IP) is the Internet service that sends digitized packet-voice data across the Internet between two telephone-like devices. VoIP is a technology in its early stages of development and, as such, there exist many open questions and opportunities for student projects.
Virtual Private Networks are an area of networking technology that bridge the divide between private leased networks and the public Internet by allowing users to establish a form of private network running over the publicly owned Internet. The advantages to companies in terms of cost savings are clear---but so are the risks involved in terms of security. We would like to establish a testbed for VPNs in the Network Interoperability Lab.
OPNET is the industry leader in computer network simulation modeling software. Through their University Program, I would like to partner with them to install OPNET on the workstations in the Networking Interoperability Lab. This project would include learning to use the sophisticated OPNET modeling and simulation software to design and study communication networks and protocols.
