CECS-174: Creating a folder for your work

There are just a couple of easy steps you need to follow.

Open Windows Explorer

The Windows Explorer is a program that lets you browse the contents of disk drives. To start a Windows Explorer window: right-click on the second desktop icon from the top and choose Explore from the popup menu as shown in the screenshot below.

Right-click on the second icon from the top, it should have your account name on it. Choose Explore from the popup menu

Creating the folder

You are encouraged to organize files inside of folders. It's a good idea to create one folder for each of your CECS classes. Inside of a folder, you can create other folders. This creates what's known as a hierarchical file system. Here are the steps to create a folder for your CECS 174 class. See screenshot below for the results of the steps.

  1. Select the network drive named homes on 'Samba Server'. This drive will always be available from any of the computers in the lab. This actually connects to a file server in order to make your account available. See screenshot below for what is shown when I try this.
  2. In the area displaying the contents of the drive, right-click a blank region in the window that is free of other icons.
  3. On the popup menu, choose new followed by Folder
  4. Now, choose a name for your new folder. This website assume you name it CECS174. Note, there are no spaces anywhere. See figure below:

Great job!
