Lab #1
Solutions to the problems below are due via e-mail, please submit your solutions no later than Monday at 1pm. Write your solutions to these problems in a word processor like MS Word and then send me the file via an attachment.
Problems
- Based on problem 1.6 in the book: every profession uses computers today. Use a Web browser and a search engine like Google to find sites that relate Computer Science (or Computing or Computation) to a second field (e.g. Biology, Physics, Business) of interest. If your major is not computer science, then you should relate CS to your major. Write a half-page paragraph about what you find especially interesting regarding the connection of CS to the field you chose. This paragraph must be written in your own words!
- Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and find out how one of the following works and write a half-page paragraph about what you read. This paragraph must be written in your own words!
- Digital Camera
- Blue screen (or green screen) from the movie industry
- Computer Processor

This will be one of the problems in Lab #2 -- you can get started if you like. Do not submit a solution with your solution to Lab #1 as it will not be graded.
- Write your first name using ASCII codes and then convert each of the ASCII codes into their binary representation.
